Is there no place in rock or alternative music for women?

I used to love Gwen Stefanie in No Doubt. Now that she is solo, she turned to pop, it bums me out. I used to love the group Hole, but towards the last album, they kinda went soft on me. I really like the band Garabage but you don't hear anything from them any more. I was never a big Avril Levigne fan when she first came on to the music scene, but now I totally hate her with all that bubble gum sheet she does now. What a waste.
