Muslims: Is it obligatory to wear the hijab, where does it say this in the Qu'ran?

My sister really wants to know which ayet, page and surah it is specifically said that covering your head (excluding face) is obligatory for females. She can't seem to find it, and she wants too know WHY, through Allahs words, must females wear it?
