Why do people put Betta's in like wall ornaments?

I have been looking into a betta but everyone on here says that they need at least 2.5 gallon tank. mine used to live in a tank, but before that it was a vase type thing. either way, why do people put them in such tiny wall things if they can't move? just curious.
